  • Legendary Bollywood actor Pran passed away in Mumbai at the age of 93. He was a Dada Saheb Pjalke Award and Padma Bhushan recipient.
  • Reserve Bank of India has banned banks from doing any proprietary trading in the currency futures and exchange-traded currency options market.
  • Pakistani army personnel have crossed the Indo-Pakistan border in Kashmir and killed five Indian jawans on 6th August. 
  • Kundankulam Nuclear Power Plant’s first unit has attained critically in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu.
  • According to National Sample Survey Organization (NSSO), the poverty level across India has been decreased by 15 percent.
  • 23 schoolchildren were died in Chapra, Bihar after eating poisonous food served under mid-day meal scheme of Central Government.

  • UPA Coordination Committee has agreed to the division of the Andhra Pradesh state. New state Telangana will be the India’s 29th state in about 4-5 months. The capital of both states will be Hyderabad for a period of 10 years.
  • Global biotechnology company Life Technologies has launched India’s first private DNA forensic laboratory in Gurgaon, Haryana.
  • The Union Cabinet has approved the draft amendments to the Right to Information (RTI) Act. This amendment will nullify an order of the Central Information Commission (CIC) which sought to bring 6 national political parties under the act.
  • The Central Government has rejected the demand of complete autonomy by CBI in the Supreme Court.
  • Arundhati Bhattacharya has been appointed as the Managing Director of the State of Bank of India (SBI).
  • The Chief Economic Advisor of India, Raghuram Rajan has been appointed as the new Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. He succeeded Dr. D. Subbarao.
  • An IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh Durga Shakti Nagpal has been suspended after overseeing drive against illegal sand mining in Gautam Budh, UP.

  • Hassan Rouhani has been elected as the new President of Iran succeeded Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
  • India, Sri Lanka and Maldives have signed the Pacific Ocean Security Pact in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
  • Mlambo Ngcuka became the first woman chief of UN Women.
  • The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) won the election to the General Assembly of Bhutan. Tshering Tobgay of PDP was sworn as the new Prime Minister of Bhutan.
  • The parliament of Ireland approved a groundbreaking law that allows abortion in limited cases.
  • The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) of Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has secured the hefty majority in the country’s Upper House.
  • The secretary-general of Bangladesh’s Jamaat-e-Islami was awarded the death penalty for doing crimes against humanity committed during the country’s 1971 Liberation War.
  • The opposition leader and anti-corruption campaigner of Russia, Alexei Navalny has been sentenced to 5 years in prison on charges of theft and embezzlement. But he has been released from custody surprisingly a day after.
  •  Indian-born businessman Mamnoon Hussain has been elected as the 12th President of Pakistan.
  • Russia has granted asylum to US NSA employee Edward Snowden.
  • Vietnam’s President Truong Tan Sang visited US for talks on boosting trade between these two countries. He became the 2nd Vietnamese President invited to White House since the normalization ties.
  • Founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange has launched his WikiLeaks Party to contest in the upcoming Australian elections. He has been now holed up in the Ecuador’s embassy in London.
  • The ruling party of Cambodia’s President Hun Sen claimed the victory in the country’s general election.
  • North Korea and South Korea marked the 60th anniversary of 1950-53 Korean War.
  • Italian Supreme Court awarded a 4-year prison sentence to ex-Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi on charges of fraud and tax evasion.
  • ‘The Washington Post’, the newspaper has been acquired by Jeffrey Bezos, the founder of Amazon.com. The newspaper exposed earlier the infamous Watergate Scandal.
  • Zimbabwe’s President, Robert Mugabe has been re-elected as the President. His party ZANU (PF) won the major seats in general election.

  • Team Mercedes racer Lewis Hamilton won the Hungarian Grand Prix Formula One championship 2013 title.
  • Chris Froome of British became the winner in the 100th Tour de France 2013 championship.
  • Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt clinched Gold in 100m at the London Diamond League athletics meet 2013.
  • No. 1 snooker player of India, Aditya Mehta won the World Games title 2013 at Cali, Colombia.
  • India won the Youth Chess Olympiad 2013 at Chongqing, Chinabeating Iran in the final round.
  • India won the five-match ODI series against Zimbabwe by 5-0. Amit Mishra of India has been named for the Man of the Series.
  • Indian Grandmaster Parimarjan Negi clinched the Politiken Cup chess tournament 2013 title.

  • Razia Sultan, a 15-year old girl from Meerut, UP has been conferred the first United Nations Malala Award 2013 for spreading education among the child labourers.
  • The founder Chairman of Delhi Metro, E. Sreedharan has been honoured with the Lokmanya Tilak Award.
  • Sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan has been chosen for the 21st Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavna Award in 2013.
  • The first and only female provincial governor of Afghanistan, Habiba Sarabi became the winner of prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award 2013
