National News

  • Central Government has launched a placement-oriented skill development scheme, named ‘Roshni’. This scheme will target 50000 rural youth in the country’s 24 most Naxalism-affected districts.
  • In Karnataka Legislative Assembly election, Congress won with 121 seats out of 224 seats.
  • Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang visited India. India and China signed MoUs covering such area as pharmaceutical, buffalo meat and fisheries.
  • Union Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal and Union Surface Transport Minister C.P. Joshi got additional charge of LAW and Railway portfolio respectively after resigning of Ashwani Kumar and Pawan Bansal.
  • K. Siddaramaih has been appointed as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka by the Governor H.R. Bhardwaj.
  • India got the observer status in the Arctic Council along with that of five other countries – China, Italy, Japan, South Korea and Singapore.
  • The Ventral Government revised the guidelines of Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) and made it mandatory to have a toilet for all houses constructed under this scheme. Only 21 percent IAY houses have toilets.

  • Indian swimmer Sandeep Sejwal has clinched two Gold medals in the 56th Malaysia Open Swimming Championship 2013.
  • Delhi Police Special Cell smashed a spot-fixing racket in the ongoing IPL-6 tournament and arrested Indian pacer S. Sreesanth and two of his teammates from Rajasthan Royals.
  • Suresh Raina became the first Indian batsman to score 4000 runs in T20 cricket.
  • Deepika Kumari won two Silver medals at the World Cup Stage I Archery Champioship in Shanghai, China.
  • India won the Asian team snooker championship title 2013.
