How to score well in IBPS PO/ Clerk/ RRB Exam



Hello friends! IBPS exam is knocking at your door. So, it's the crucial time for you to be prepared well for the battle. Today, we will discuss about the exam strategy.


ibps exam tipsIn every year, lakh of students apply for Probationary Officers (PO), Clerk recruitment in different nationalized banks and regional rural banks (RRBs) conducted by Institute of Banking Personnel selection (IBPS). Earlier, there were two stages of the whole recruitment process which are - online test and interview.


But from 2015, IBPS has changed in recruitment procedure. A preliminary exam  has been incorporated which is nothing but a screening test. A candidate has to clear the preliminary test to be appeared for main exam. Although, this change has been made for IBPS PO & Clerk recruitment exam. The process remain unchanged for IBPS RRB recruitment.

Now we are directly entering into the discussion on the recruitment stages.

Preliminary Exam :

The preliminary exam is common for IBPS PO, Clerk, RRB exam. There will be an online exam which consists of 100 marks (for PO & Clerk only). As it is a screening test, we have said, the question paper would be quite easy. The main competition will be in next stage i.e. in main exam. So, it won't be a difficult task to qualify in this stage. You should not take too much risk in prelim exam. Because this hurdle will take you to the next hurdles. Now let's have a look into the syllabus of prelim exam.


Syllabus of Prelim Exam (effecting from 2015) :

1) English - 30 marks
2) Reasoning - 35 marks
3) Math - 35 marks

Main Exam : 

This is the crucial part of the recruitment process. Actually main exam is the exam what was actually in previous years. Marks of main exam will be counted. So, be careful in this stage. Don't need to have target to score cent percent here. Make your target shorter.Attempt those particular questions which you could solve. Because, there are negative marks which is in the ratio of 4:1.

Syllabus of IBPS PO Main Exam :

  1. Reasoning - 50 (marks)
  2. Quantitative Aptitude - 50
  3. English - 40
  4. General Awareness - 40
  5. Computer Knowledge - 20

Syllabus of IBPS Clerk (Main Exam) and IBPS RRB Exam :
  1. Reasoning - 40 (marks)
  2. Quantitative Aptitude - 40
  3. English - 40
  4. General Awareness - 40
  5. Computer Knowledge - 40

7 Points you should keep in mind -
  • Never lose your confidence after checking the previous year's question papers. May be the papers are tough. Actually only for few questions, the papers seems to be tough. But, you should concentrate on those questions which are not tougher. 
  • Again, we would say, you need to write the exam for scoring 100% marks. But your aim to obtain as many marks as you could. Give your best in the exam.
  • Study the previous years' questions paper thoroughly. It would help you to get some ideas about the question pattern. Then proceed accordingly.
  • Mark those questions or portions which you could solve. Never concentrate on those questions which makes trouble while solving and hence waste too much time.
  • After marking those portions, practice questions as much as you can. Collect different types of those questions and try to solve. It will help you to increase your confidence.
  • After that, if you think that your mentally ready to face mock test, try to solve some practice sets.
  • The more practice papers you solve, the more you will be benefited. It will surely help you to be self motivated.

Interview :

This is the last stage where your personality is checked. Interview is a game changer. If you score less marks in online test, you might have a chance to overcome. We have already said that interview is a game changer because it is seen every year that some candidates obtain score which is just above the cutoff marks. But in interview, they hit tremendous scores as they perform well. So, you can not ignore interview. It is also as important part as online test is.
